Madan K. Raj, M.D.

Madan K. Raj, M.D., is a Board Certified Interventional Pain Management Specialist and Founder & Director of the New York iSpine Specialist Medical PC.

Dr. Raj earned his medical degree from Madurai Kamaraj University, a top medical school in India and a post-graduate diploma in Orthopedics from JJM Medical College, India. He performed his internship in surgery and completed a three-year residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York. Dr. Raj then performed a fellowship in interventional pain medicine with the Department of Anesthesiology at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He also completed training in rehabilitation medicine at National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. Dr. Raj has practiced surgery & medicine in India, UK & Ireland before he began practicing in the United States. His unique combination of specialty training in Orthopedics, PM&R and Pain Medicine gives him an edge in diagnosing painful spine and joint conditions and treating them with his interventional skills.

Dr. Raj’s late father was a renowned surgeon in India; the role model who instilled his passion in the field of medicine. He always taught him to do the right thing in life and advised him to follow his passion since his childhood days. Dr. Raj is passionate about diagnosing painful spinal conditions and treating them. He enjoys seeing his patients being pain-free after their treatments. Dr. Raj acknowledges his father for inspiring his career path of alleviating suffering from pain disorders and serving the community.

In addition to his medical credentials, Dr. Raj completed the Executive Healthcare MBA program at the University of Texas at Dallas. He also holds a graduate certificate in Healthcare Management from The Alliance for Medical Management Education at The University of Texas at Dallas School of Management.

Dr. Raj served as Medical Director of the Interventional Spine Program at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania prior to joining Neurological Surgery, P.C., a premier private practice group on Long Island. He was the Division Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Bassett Health Care in Cooperstown, New York and was instrumental in starting the Bassett Spine Center. Dr. Raj is proud of his leadership in starting the Bassett Spine Center, which has now grown into a major referral center helping upstate New Yorkers. Dr. Raj’s clinical interests include advanced pain management techniques for treating spinal pain and discogenic pain. Dr. Raj has given several community lectures educating on spine health and painful medical conditions.

Dr. Raj is dual-board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine by National Board of Physicians & Surgeons (NBPAS). He is a member of American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR), American Pain Society (APS), American Medical Association (AMA), American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP), Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY), Nassau County Medical Society (NCMS), New York Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (NYSPMR), North American Spine Society (NASS), American Association of Pain Medicine (AAPM), American College of Physician Executives (ACPE), and North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS).

Dr. Raj loves spending time with his family and his adorable Labradoodle “Simba” after work and enjoys traveling to new places.
